The Descent into a Digital Culture In this century our culture is changing rapidly. Just in the last 30 years alone our scientific understanding, technological achievements, and fragmentation of values has transformed faster than in the previous 100 years alone. With our express style culture change, one has to wonder what will be said about our culture another hundred years in the future. What is the one thing that has defined us as who we are? A section on our slow ascent into socialism may be in order, or maybe a chapter on our obsession with going green. However, I would suggest that the first chapter in a humanities book of 2113 on our culture title â€Å"The Descent into a Digital Culture†. Our culture is most defined by the digital†¦show more content†¦This has led to a culture in which one does not wait for something, but expects to receive whatever they desire instantly. This did not just translate into knowledge or things we needed. The average person in the U.S today no longer waits to save up the needed funds to buy a new flat screen or other new widget. Instead they finance it or put it on credit. Like their digital life on the internet they expect it instantly. Our Descent into a Digital Culture of instant gratification has become part of who we are. How can our digital culture be explained without our sudden need to cease communication with others. That is unless it involves a smartphone or a twitter page. The previous generations of the United States use to socialize at social events and would even go out and visit people that they wanted to talk to. Sometimes they would actually put their thoughts down a piece of dried would pulp and mail it. The digital culture that ours has become carries out these tasks in a rather different fashion. In modern times social events can be defined as a group chat on Facebook. As far as visiting other human beings, who needs to when there is twitter. Writing letters has become a very archaic form of communication replaced by email. In our present culture most believe that the entire social stimulus that one requires can be found on Facebook or Snap chat.
