The scene where he steals bananas shows how Begnini can "squeeze more laughs from a simple prop, (in this case a banana), than any other comic in modern movies"(1). At the same time he is tricking the federal government by acting that he got a spastic hand due to some injury in order to get some extra benefits .His love life also paints a pathetic picture: he cant get a single girl in town who is willing to go out with him even those who had been dumped by their men and would go out with anyone to make their ex- Life changes for Dante when, in the first scene, he encounters Maria after coming out of night party who faints as she sees him. Then one afternoon she visits him at his place and asks him to meet her at her room in an opulent hotel. After their meeting, he is convinced that she has deeply fallen in love with him and therefore accepts to come to his villa in Palermo, Sicily. Here her true identity and motives are revealed to the audiences though they remain unknown to Dante, throughout the movie. Circles on ACT Math Geometry Formulas and Strategies SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips One of the ACTââ¬â¢s absolute favorite shapes is the circle (or at least we assume so, given how often circles show up on the test). You will not be given any formulas on the ACT, so youââ¬â¢ll have to know and memorize the ins and outs of how circles work before test day. And, considering how often circles show up, mastering circle problems is definitely in your best interest. This will be your complete guide to ACT circles, including areas, circumferences, degrees, arcs, and points on a circle. Weââ¬â¢ll take you through what these terms mean, how to manipulate and solve for various aspects of a circle, and how to tackle the most difficult ACT circle questions you may see on test day. What Are Circles? A circle is formed from the infinite number of points equidistant (the same distance) from a single pointthe center of the circle. A circle is also a two dimensional shape, which means it is completely flat. So any and all straight lines drawn from the center will exactly hit the edge of the circle as long as all the lines are of equal length. Degrees and Radians A circle is measured in either degrees or radians. Both are ways to express either the whole circle or pieces of the circle. A full circle has 360 degrees. A semicircle (half a circle) has $360/2 = 180$ degrees, which is why a straight line equals 180 degrees. To find a piece of a circle, you must find it in relation to 360 degrees. So an eighth of a circle is $360(1/8) = 45$ degrees, and a third of a circle is $360(1/3) = 120$, etc. Just as a circle has 360 degrees, you could also say that it has $2Ãâ¬$ radians. You find the radian measure of pieces of a circle the exact same way that you found pieces of a circle using degrees. So an eighth of a circle in radians is $2Ãâ¬(1/8) = Ãâ¬/4$ radians and a third of a circle in radians is $2Ãâ¬(1/3) = {2Ãâ¬}/3$ radians, etc. (For more information on radians, check out our guide to ACT trigonometry.) Circumference The circumference is the edge of the circle. It is made from the infinite points equidistant from the center. Diameter A diameter is any straight line drawn through the center of the circle which connects two opposite points on the circleââ¬â¢s circumference. Radius The radius of a circle is a straight line drawn from the center to any point on the circleââ¬â¢s circumference. It is always half the diameter. Tangency Circles are often described as ââ¬Å"tangentâ⬠with one another. This means that they touch at exactly one point on each circumference. They might be inside one another (as in this picture), or they may touch "externally" at a single point. p p="" Ã⬠(pi) If youââ¬â¢ve taken a geometry class, then you are also probably familiar with Ã⬠(pi). Ã⬠is the mathematical symbol that represents the ratio of any circleââ¬â¢s circumference to its diameter. It is usually expressed as 3.14(159), but its digits go on infinitely. (For more information on ratios, check out our guide to ACT ratios.) Let's say we have a circle with a particular diameter (any diameter will do). Now let's line up this same circle so that we have a series of the same diameter measurement all in a row. Now, if we pick a point on the circumference of the circle and line it up at the beginning of the line, we can then "unroll" the circumference to see how long it is. Once we unroll the circumference and lay it out flat, we can see that it measures a little over 3 times the diamter of the circle (specifically, 3.14159, or Ãâ¬, times the diameter). No matter what the diameter of the circle, the circumference will always be Ã⬠times that diameter. So, if a circleââ¬â¢s diameter is 1, then its circumference is Ãâ¬. And if its diameter is 2, then its circumference is 2Ãâ¬, etc. You know all your definitions (whoo!), so now what? Well it's time to put the pieces together into our trusty circle formulas! Circle Formulas You will not be given any formulas on the test, so you will need to know these ACT circle formulas by heart in order to solve your circle problems. Let's look at all the formulas you'll need. Circumference $$c = Ãâ¬d$$ Because Ã⬠is the relationship between a circleââ¬â¢s diameter and its circumference, you can always find a circleââ¬â¢s circumference as long as you know its diameter (or its radius) with the formulas: $c = Ãâ¬d$ or $c = Ãâ¬2r$ Because the contestant must run around the course, she is running the circumference of the circle. And we are told that she will do so 3 times in order to complete her race. So a 1-track loop would be: $c_{1 \loop} = Ãâ¬2r$ (We are told that the radius is ââ¬Å"$R$â⬠so we can leave it as is.) And a 3-track loop would be: $c_{3 \loop} = (Ãâ¬2r) * 3$ $Ãâ¬6r$ So our final answer is K, $6Ãâ¬r$ Area $$a = Ãâ¬r^2$$ You can also use Ã⬠to find the area of a circle as well, since a circleââ¬â¢s area is closely related to its circumference. (Why? Because a circle is made of infinite points, and so it is essentially made up of infinite triangular wedgesbasically a pie with an infinite number of slices. The height of each of these wedges would be the circleââ¬â¢s radius and the cumulative bases would be the circleââ¬â¢s circumference.) So you would be able to find a circleââ¬â¢s area using the formula: $a = Ãâ¬r^2$ The dogââ¬â¢s leash represents the radius of the circle, because the dog can run 9 feet in any straight line from the center of the stake in the ground. So we must find the area of the circle using 3.14 for $Ãâ¬$ and 9 for the radius. $a = Ãâ¬r^2$ $a = (3.14)(9^2)$ $a = (3.14)(81)$ $a = 254.34$ So our final answer is D, 254. Arcs $$c_\arc = Ãâ¬d({\arc \degree}/360à °)$$ $$a_{\arc \sector} = Ãâ¬r^2({\arc \degree}/360à °)$$ In order to find the circumference of a circleââ¬â¢s arc (or the area of a wedge made from a particular arc), you must multiply your standard circle formulas by the fraction of the circle that the arc spans. To determine the fraction of the circle that the arc spans, you must have the degree measure of the arc and find its measure out of the circleââ¬â¢s full 360 degrees. So if you want to find the circumference of an arc that is 90à °, it would be $1/4$ the total area of the circle. Why? Because $360/90 = 4$ (in other words, $90/360 = 1/4$). In order to find the circumference measure of an arc, we must have both the degree measure and the circleââ¬â¢s radius or diameter. Luckily, we have all of these. The degree measure of the arc, we are told, is 45. The top diagram tells us that the diameter of the circle is 24 feet. So the circumference of our arc is: $c \arc = Ãâ¬d({\arc \degree}/360à °)$ $c \arc = Ãâ¬24(45/360)$ $c = 3Ãâ¬$ Because we can see that our answer does not use units of $Ãâ¬$, let us convert our answer to digits by replacing $Ãâ¬$ with 3.14. $3Ã⬠= 3(3.14)$ $9.42$ We have successfully found the measurement of our arc, but we are not quite done. The question is asking us to find the full length of the zipper, which spans the length of the arc as well as the radius of the circle. This means we must find our radius and add it to our arc measurement. The radius of the circle is 12. Why 12? Because our diameter is 24 feet and a circleââ¬â¢s radius is always half the diameter. $24/2 = 12$ So when we add our arc measure and our radius together, we get: $9.42 + 12 = 21.42$ And the closest answer to match our measurement of 21.42 is answer choice G, 22. This means our final answer is G, 22. With a dash of formula knowledge (and, presumably, some eye of newt), you can solve any and all circle problems. Magic! Typical Circle Questions on the ACT Circle problems on the ACT will be one of two typesdiagram problem or word problem. Let us look at each type. Diagram Problem A diagram problem will give you a diagram from which to work. You must use the visual you are provided and either find a missing piece or find equivalent measurements or differences. Helpful hint: often (though not always), the trick to solving a circle problem is in finding and understanding the radius. All lines drawn from the center to the circumference are radii and are therefore equal, and this will often play a vital part to solving the whole problem. We are hoping to find the one statement that is NOT true, so letââ¬â¢s go through them and see which ones are accurate and inaccurate. Answer choice F says that angle TUM is 65à °. Well, we know that angle TMU must be 50à ° because it is opposite angle RMS and opposite angles are equal. (For more on this, check out our guide to ACT lines and angles.) We also know that lines TM and MU are equal. Why? Because they are both radii of the circle (lines from the center to the circumference of the circle) and so they must be equal. This means that the triangle TMU is an isosceles triangle, which means that angles MTU and TUM are equal. There are 180à ° in a triangle, so if we subtract 50à °, we get: $180 - 50 = 130$ This means that each of the angles MTU and TUM add up to equal 130. And, because they are equal, we can find their measure by dividing 130à ° in half. $130/2 = 65$ So F is correct, angle TUM is 65à °. Now letââ¬â¢s look at option G, which says that lines RS and TU are parallel. We know this to be true. Why? Because together, the triangles form two diameters of the circle. And so straight lines downwards from where those diameters touch the circumference of the circle will be parallel. H says that arc TXU measures 50à °. We already know this to be true, because angle RMS measures 50à ° and its opposite angle is TMU, which must also measure 50à °. Because the arc TXU contains and is made from angle TMU, its measurement must also be 50à °. Answer choice J says that line RM = line TM, which we also know is true. Why? Because they are both radii of the circle and so they must be equal. By process of elimination, this must mean that K is wrong (and thus our final choice), but letââ¬â¢s make sure. K says that lines RS and SM are equal, but we already know this cannot be true. Why? Because RM and MS are both radii and so they must be equal and angle RMS is 50à °, which means the triangle is not equilateral. Because it is not an equilateral triangle, lines RM and TM cannot be equal. (Note: if this question was at all confusing to you, check out our guide to ACT triangles) So our final answer is K. Word Problem Word problem questions about circles will describe a scene or situation that revolves around circles in some way. As you saw earlier in the section on areas and circumferences, word problem questions will often be a little more straightforward than a diagram question, as the picture is not given to you. When given a word problem question, it is a good idea to do your own quick sketch of the scene. This will help you keep all the details in order. Because this is a word problem, let us make our own picture of the scene. First, we know that we have a circular table. We are told that is is 3 feet in diameter (in other words, 36 inches), so let us draw it. Now, the tablecloth will be rectangular and will hang down at least 5 inches from any point on the circular table. Finally, we need 1 more inch of tablecloth on every side (to sew down as a finishing touch). Now, we can simply count our inches from top to bottom (or side to side) in a straight line. This will tell us the minimum length required for the fabric. If we go from top to bottom, we can see that we will need: $1 + 5 + 36 + 5 + 1$ $48$ inches of fabric. Our final answer is K, 48. Real life (and delicious) applications of circumferences and areas. How to Solve a Circle Problem When confronted with a circle problem, remember to employ these ACT math strategies: #1: Write down your formulas at the beginning of the math section As soon as you open up your ACT math section, take 20 seconds and write down your formulas. This way, youââ¬â¢ll have them as a reference for the rest of your allotted time, and you wonââ¬â¢t worry about forgetting them in the heat of the moment when youââ¬â¢ll need them later on. #2: Draw your own diagrams If youââ¬â¢re not given a diagram, draw one yourself! It doesnââ¬â¢t take long to make your own picture and doing so can save you a lot of grief and struggle as you go through your test. It can be all too easy to make an assumption or mix up your numbers when you try to perform math in your head, so donââ¬â¢t be afraid to take a moment to draw your own pictures. And if you are given a diagram, draw on it too! Mark down congruent lines and angles, write in your radius measurement or your given angles. Mark any and all pieces of information you need or are given. The reason not everything is marked in your diagrams is so that the question wonââ¬â¢t be too easy, so always write in your information yourself. #3: Analyze whatââ¬â¢s really being asked of you All the formulas in the world wonââ¬â¢t help you if you think youââ¬â¢re supposed to find the area, but youââ¬â¢re really being asked to find the circumference. Always remember that standardized tests are trying to get you to solve questions in ways in which youââ¬â¢re likely unfamiliar, so read carefully and pay close attention to the question youââ¬â¢re actually being asked. #4: Use your formulas Once youââ¬â¢ve verified what youââ¬â¢re supposed to find, most circle questions are fairly straightforward. Plug your givens into your formulas, isolate your missing information, and solve. Voila! A tasty mathematical conspiracy? Test Your Knowledge Now let's put your circle knowledge to the test on these real ACT math problems. 1. 2. 3. Answers: B, B, H Answer Explanations: 1. In order to determine the degree measure of a section of a pie chart, we must determine the fraction (or percentage) of the sector weââ¬â¢re working with compared to the whole amount of the circle. In this case, we want to know what fraction of people total voted for Gomez in order to find how much of the pie chart the Gomez votes should be allotted. If 40 people out of 200 voted for Gomez, then the Gomez votes are: $40/200$ $1/5$ of all the votes total. Because Gomez votes are $1/5$ of the total votes, then they should take up $1/5$ of the pie chart. A circle is 360 degrees. So: $(360)(1/5) = 72$ The arc sector of the Gomez votes will be at a 72 degree angle in the pie chart. So our final answer is B. 2. We are given a diameter of 8 and we need to find the perimeter of the entire figure of two semicircles and a square. Together, the two semicircles make a full circle with a diameter of 8, and their circumference makes up part of the perimeter. This means we must find the circumference of the circle the two semicircles make when put together. $c = Ãâ¬d$ $c = Ãâ¬(8)$ So the circumference of the circle the two semicircles make is $8Ãâ¬$. (Because we are dealing with semicircles, you could also find half of each of their circumferences by saying: ${1/2}c = 8Ãâ¬$ = $4Ãâ¬$. Each of their circumferences would be $4Ãâ¬$, so together, they would make: $4Ã⬠+ 4Ã⬠= 8Ãâ¬$. Either way, the total circumference of the perimeter would be $8Ãâ¬$.) Now we must add that to the rest of the perimeter, which is formed by part of the square. Two sides of the square (both measuring 8) make part of the perimeter, so we have: $p = 8 + 8 + 8Ãâ¬$ $p = 16 + 8Ãâ¬$ So our final answer is B. 3. Because we are working with circles, we know that lines PS and PT are radii. Why? P is the center of the circle and points T and S lie on the circumference, so we know that the lines connecting them are radii. Because PS and PT are equal and angle PST is 30 degrees, that means that angle PTS is also 30 degrees. Why? Angles opposite equal lines are equal (for more on this, check out our guide to ACT triangles). This means we can find angle TPS as the shape is a triangle (which has 180 degrees total). $180 - 30 - 30 = 120$ So angle TPS = 120 degrees. Now that we have found angle TPS, we can also find angle RPS. Together, the two angles make a straight line, which means that they must equal 180 degrees total. (Why? Because a circle is 360 degrees and a semicircle is 180 degrees. A straight line will therefore always measure 180 degrees.) $180 - 120 = 60$ This means that angle RPS = 60 degrees. And since angle RPS forms our arc, our arc measure it 60 degrees. So our final answer is H. Puppies cannot lie; it is scientific fact. You solved your ACT math problems and are, indeed, awesome. The Take-Aways Circle problems are quite common, but most of them are slight variations on the same themes of area and circumference. On the ACT, the most useful part of any circle is generally the radius and, once youââ¬â¢ve gotten used to thinking that all radii are equal, then you will often be able to breeze past even the trickiest of ACT circle problems. Remember your formulas and keep a clear head about whatââ¬â¢s being asked of you and you will be able to take out a significant portion of the ACT geometry section with circles alone. The research drew a lot of criticism about its reality making several energy researchers and engineers around the world dive into the issue. The future of energy resources had been a bother among the industrial nations on how to tap energy for industries and households. If Fleischmann and Pons hypothesis was true, it could solve the energy issues. Cold fusion is hence a proposed type of nuclear reaction that is believed to occur at relatively low temperatures unlike hot fusion. However, its destiny is unclear (Kozima 11-16). Nuclear fusion occurs at super high temperatures, super high environment and requires big sets of apparatus which are extremely expensive. As a new type of nuclear reaction, cold fusion was proposed to explain reports by experiments of unusually high generation of energy under specific laboratory conditions. Researchers have continued to conduct investigations of cold fusion and have found out that the interaction of hydrogen or deuterium with Palladium, Nickel or Platinum produces excess heat effects under extreme conditions. The original reports failed to replicate consistently and reliably causing the rejection by mainstream media. Fleishmann and Pons discovery eventually became invalid as it had not actually detected the by products of nuclear reactions (Fleishmann, and Pons 301-308). Trombay initiated experiments in 1989 to verify the claims of cold fusion. Large busts of neutrons were detected with a Pd-Ni electrolyte cell. Significant amount of neutrons and tritium were found to be produced in gas loaded Ti and Pd samples. D2 loaded Ti disc targets have also revealed some hot spots indicating an uneven distribution of tritium production in the near surface region. Trombay experiments have confirmed the occurrence of cold fusion reaction in both Pd and Ti metallic lat tices loaded with deuterium at certain temperatures. Neutron emission has also been observed even when the electrolytic cell is switched off or when there are no externally induced processes like heating, cooling and evacuation are effected (Kozima 11-16). Findings The main product of cold fusion reactions is Tritium. However, its presence inside the palladium electrodes has not been quantitatively evaluated. Cold fusion can be characterised as being ââ¬Ëaneutronicââ¬â¢ with a neutron to tritium channel branching ratio of less than 10-8. Neutrons from electronically loaded Pd and gas loaded Ti are emitted one at a time. It is hence unclear whether the neutrons are generated in the D-D fusion itself or produced in a secondary reaction involving energetic protons or tritons. Autoradiography of loaded gas loaded Ti targets demonstrates both the occurrence of cold fusion and tritium production. The estimated tritium to deuterium isotopic ratios is several orders of magnitude highe r in the initial stock D2O. There is a high concentration of tritium on localised regions or hot spots on the target surface as well as along the periphery of the disc. The high probability of tritium branch in cold D-D fusion reactions indicate processes of neutron transfer across the potential barrier (Report on the workshop on cold fusion, June 3). Some departments of energy like the U.S Department have reported on the inadequate conviction of experiments done by earlier scholars. Based on the review of published reports, reprints, journals and many communications, the results of the experiments of excess heat with the calorimetric cells do not present convincing evidence that useful source of energy would result from the results attributed from cold fusion. Administration Of Policy The policy in china was very drastic and therefore it contained many punishments for anyone who tried to breach the policy and the government also deployed many forces of administration to make sure that people were being monitored and that no one was trying for a second child. There were family-planning workers in every single workplace to grant families the ability to have a child if they had been on the waiting list and also at this point the couple would be presented with a special card which gives them authority to claim governmental benefits such as free education, free kindergarten facilities, free healthcare etc. on birth of the child. Changes Generated by The One Child Policy. Without need to say, the obvious: the one child policy had caused a drop in the fertility rate in China. From the starting point of the policy in 1981 to now the birth rate has dropped from an above average 2. 9 to 1. 7 and this has lead to understand that the policy was successful and that it has tackled one of the countryââ¬â¢s main concern which is an ever-expanding population. Furthermore, this drop has claimed to prevent up to 400 million births, which would otherwise have kept Chinaââ¬â¢s population at 1. 7 billion currently compared to the 1. 3 billion that it actually is today. However, despite showing a drop in birth rate after the beginning of this policy, there are statistics that show that Chinaââ¬â¢s fertility rates fell drastically during the 1970s and that the policy did not influence the drop in birth rates much. This suggests that the fertility rate was naturally decreasing so there was no need for the policy. This suggests that the policy did not control the countryââ¬â¢s population greatly because the fertility rates had dropped severely just before the commencement of the policy. Therefore the implementation of such a severe policy has now indented Chinese peopleââ¬â¢s concept of families and even if the policy was to be removed people will still continue to have few children and this would not have been the case if fertility rates were allowed to naturally decrease to make the population eventually stable much alike how most other countries have progressed through the demographic transition such as Russia, Germany and Japan. The rapid fall in fertility rate just before the one child policy is clearly shown in the graph that is on the previous page; the graph was taken from the GapMinder webpage which holds information about the world demographic and thus is very reliable. Another negative impact of the one child policy was a case of female infanticide. In fact, this is an interesting concern as it has lead to china presenting a population where there are about 120 Chinese men for every 100 Chinese women and thus there is a shortage of women. There was a severe amount of female infanticide for several reasons. Firstly a male child was seen as more superior for the use on farmland and for the use on agricultural land as men were seen as stronger characters compared to women. Secondly, only the male would be able to carry forward the family name and in China there was a great cultural desire to carry forward a family name to keep the family advancing through generations. Finally, men are usually the main income-earners, either because they are more employable or earn higher wages for the same work, or because they are able to do more agricultural work in subsistence economies. Since male babies have a greater income potential, they are more desired over females and thus female births were usually abandoned or killed. There are some stories of extreme discomfort where female babies have been flushed down toilets and drowned, as they were not considered valuable to Chinese family. Furthermore, the shortage of females in China has lead to a generation where there are ââ¬Å"too many menâ⬠, and this was caused by the desire to have a male child in the family. The result of the one child policy has meant that there are 1000 million women whom would else be existent if the policy wasnââ¬â¢t introduced and thus this social engineering has converted the a balanced gender country into an imbalanced country with more men. This has lead to desire to import woman known as human trafficking where women are smuggled using from Burma and North Korea and the women are used as prostitutes or sold as wives and domestic servants in parts of china. This is a negative outcome of the policy by which women are used inappropriately and are illegally imported from other countries. Furthermore, it is expected that by the year 2030 there could be up to 20-30million bachelors in chine whom are unable to find a partner and this would further increase the desire and temptation to want female prostitutes and this will create an illegal transportation of women to china from neighboring countries. Another disadvantage of the policy is that a generation of not enough children is developing in china and this results in not enough children to look after parents which could mean that the country could grow old before it is able to develop itââ¬â¢s economy and becoming rich by limiting the mouths to feed as it is trying to do so using the one child policy. In china this lack of children is called the ââ¬Ë4-2-1ââ¬â¢ dilemma and as The Economist suggests this is where each couple has the job of looking after four parents and one child. This creates a dilemma as the coupleââ¬â¢s parents become aged and need the help of the couple and thus the couple have the cost of having to look after their parents all on their own as they would not have any siblings and thus china has created a problem for families trying to develop as they will have a shortage of money to spend elsewhere in the economy to try boost the countries development stage. The imbalanced structure of chinaââ¬â¢s population also hints that the working force will come to an end by 2020 and therefore this would mean that the country would not be able to further develop and this has again raised pressure on the Chinese government to introduce further amendments to the one child policy. For example, Hu Jintao suggested allowing more than one birth but between longer gaps and also the scrapping of the birth quota so that couples could still have a child even if the maximum number of children in a certain area is reached. This would help to regain a large population of workers in the future generation to continue with the countries development without having to deal with another expanding population. The article presented by The Economist has dealt with many defects of the one child policy including the extortionate amount of female infanticide, the illegal need for a second child, female imports, ââ¬Ë4-2-1ââ¬â¢ issue and the fact that the country could have still developed without the policy as statistics showed that fertility rates were naturally decreasing as people become more educated and this would therefore have reduced to countryââ¬â¢s large population and allowed the country to develop as the government would have to feed fewer people and also if the policy had not been introduced there would not be effects one some females lives who have been sterilized permanently after the birth of the first child because this would prevent the mother from having another child ever. Also, the Chinese government are now unable to scrape the policy because they have not alternatives that could be administrated on the scale of the one child policy and therefore the government suggests ââ¬Ëwe will stick to the family-planning policy for decadesââ¬â¢ and this implies that the removal of the policy would have a considerate difference on Chinaââ¬â¢s population and that it could possibly improve the gender imbalance which is not of great interest to china as demographers suggest the removal of the policy would suggest a rapid increase in population once again and this would mean that the country would not be able to achieve its goal which is to become a well developed country with a high GDP. The charts below show what would happen to chinaââ¬â¢s population and its structure by 2050 if the policy was to be removed and as the first graph clearly suggests, the one child policy has been heavily successful in maintaining a smaller population and emphasis should be placed on the fact it is just a smaller population. Although, the population is smaller the structure of the population between men and women and groups of elderly, working class as well as those under 15 is highly imbalanced and as the chart on the right clearly imposes, if the policy was removed the demographic structure will become more balanced once again.

Experiment Proving Carbohydrate Intake Delays Fatigue Essay -- Biology
The goal of this scientific study was to determine if the delayed onset of fatigue, as a result of consuming carbohydrates, was associated with stopping muscle glycogen depletion. Therefore, this web page is dedicated to presenting the important points of the study and to expand on those ideas in order to encompass a more general function of carbohydrates in our daily activities. The basic outline of the experiment consisted of a control group and an experimental group; both groups contained endurance-trained cyclists who had fasted beforehand. The cyclists were required to maintain a constant 70% aerobic workload while they cycled. The control group was given a sweet drink that did not suffice as an energy source; the drink contained aspartame (NutraSweet) which has no nutritional value. The other drink contained nutritionally useful carbohydrate that had an equally sweet flavor. Cyclists were not told which drink they were receiving. This was done to avoid biases (such as cycling harder with the carbohydrate drink to "please" the scientists) from entering the experiment and thus corrupting the data. Muscle biopsies to measure muscle glycogen were taken before excercise, after 2 and 3 hours of exercise, and at the time of fatigue (when the cyclists could no longer work at 70% of their aerobic capacity). Blood samples were also taken every twenty minutes and upon fatigue. These blood samples were used to quantitatively analyze the glucose levels in the blood at the various times. The results of this study were that carbohydrate feedings during prolonged exercise delayed fatigue by one hour. Results: These clinical studies of Shaklee products show that carbohydrates help to prolong the onset of fatigue to keep the athlete going. Explanation Paper on Child Advocacy soc 4800 Dr. Schmidt Child advocacy refers to a range of individuals, professionals and advocacy organizations who promote the optimal development of children. An individual or organization engaging in advocacy typically seeks to protect childrenââ¬â¢s rights which may be abridged or abused in a number of areas. This type of occupation advocates for all children whether they are a boy or a girl. Children in all areas of the globe experience some sort of abuse and without omeone in place to be that voice for them, their cries are left unheard. My presentation points out the Job description of a child advocate and how someone can take this position to make a difference. I intern at the Haven which is a battered womenââ¬â¢s shelter and I see firsthand how children are affected by abuse. Child advocates donââ¬â¢t make much money to do what they do, however, the reward is eternal. Child advocates exist in school, community, and home environments, and ork on an individual, group or governmental levels to protect and nurture children. In most circumstances, mothers, fathers, family and teachers all advocate on behalf of children, although it is well recognized that we all have the ability and responsibility to advocate on behalf of children. Eight Canadian provinces. including Ontario, have an official Child Advocate whose job it is to protect the interests and welfare of all the children in the province. Within he criminal Justice system, child advocates are concerned with the developmental needs of children and young people, and can play an important role in ensuring due process rights for young people in conflict with the law. They can help provide a voice for children and young people, ensure Just and humane conditions of custody, and guard the privacy rights surrounding record provisions. They can also work to ensure that the special legal protections assigned to young people are provided with dignity and fairness.

Adlerian Theory and Models of Counseling Essay
The separate aspects that add up to the entire sum of what each individual develops into developed the basis of Adlerian Theory. This paper will address the connection between Adlerian theory and early psychodynamic theory and contemporary family systems. Adlerââ¬â¢s greatest contribution to modern psychology will be included. The important influences on personality development that Adler thought important will be discussed. A treatment plan from an Adlerian approach will be used to respond to Darnell, a cases study that is correlated with this class. Adlerââ¬â¢s Ideas Alfred Adler was a follower of Freud but separated himself to develop his own school of Individual Psychology. He thought that Freudââ¬â¢s views were too strongly influence by sexual instincts. Alfred Adler theory looked at how a person is influenced by his or her social urges and conscious thought, not every thing being influenced by sexual urges and the unconscious (Cervone & Pervin, 2010). Adlerian theory has an emphasis in birth order, social interests, and individualââ¬â¢s lifestyle, along with the concepts of inferiority and superiority as key components in the personality development. Much of Adlerian theory is based in socialistic ideology. Alfred Adler professed to be influenced by Karl Marx and much of his theory contains the inspirations from this type of ideology. Adler thought that psychological health is measured and determined by a personââ¬â¢s level of social contribution and the benefit received to the community for the greater good (Hunter, n.d.). ââ¬Å"So cial contribution is increased through the reduction of mistaken beliefs, which frequently lead to maladaptive feelings of inferiority or superiority. This goal of combating false beliefs is attained through an understanding of family constellations, early memories, and dreamsâ⬠Hunter (n.d.). Adlerââ¬â¢s Contributions to Psychology Alfred Adler founded the Society of Individual Psychology in 1912. The authorââ¬â¢s perspective believes that Adlerââ¬â¢s greatest contribution to modern psychology is the suggestion that every person has a sense of inferiority. Early in childhood individuals work at trying to overcome their inferiority by asserting their superiority over others. Adlerââ¬â¢s thoughts of striving for superiority was a concept that he believed to be a motivating force behind human behaviors, along with their thoughts and emotions (ââ¬Å"Alfred Adlerââ¬â¢s Contributionsâ⬠, n.d.). This was known as the concept of the inferiority complex. Adler also contributed to psychology with his theory of position within the family system and the influence of birth order (University of Phoenix, 2013). The Adlerian theory states that a personââ¬â¢s lifestyle is comprised of four attributes are: self-concept, self-ideal, picture of the world, and ethical convictions (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adler also explored the family constellation and an individualââ¬â¢s relationship, early recollections, and the level of dominant or inferior role in that family system. Adlerian Theory for Case Analysis Darnell Yardley is the subject of this case study. Darnell is a 25-year-old African American College student referred for counseling by his academic advisor. Darnell has an athletic build, is well dressed and clean-shaven. He is reporting feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty with regard to career goals. His appearance is incongruent with his responses (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adlerian counseling would look at the influences on personality development for Darnell. The fact that Darnell was the youngest of four children and he was the only male child would be influential. Adlerian would look at the family constellation that Darnell grew up in. He describes his childhood as chaotic, with many fights. His father an electrical engineer was aloof, distant and very responsible. His mother was a nurse described as caring, but frequently overwhelmed and too stressed to provide for the childrenââ¬â¢s needs (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adlerian theory addresses early recollections, which for Darnell are traumatic and damaging. Darnellââ¬â¢sà early memories of his father coming home from work after a demotion and said to him ââ¬Å"You are really dumb. Why canââ¬â¢t you be like your sisters?â⬠This occurred after he received a C on a math test. He had a closer relationship with his mother but remembers yelling at her when she was drunk. Darnell reme mbers many nights where he would cry himself to sleep as a child (University of Phoenix, 2013). The outline for the strategy of applying Adlerian models in counseling Darnell would consist of specifics within the process of therapy. The therapist client relationship would be established. The process of therapy would explore the individual family of origin and the dynamics within that family. The client would discuss the feelings surrounding some of the early childhood recollections. The therapist would encourage the client with some self-understanding and insight regarding some of the issues discussed. The therapist would encourage the client to see there role in these events and then encourage them to re-orientate themselves as an adult and his or her own personal sense of fulfillment (University of Phoenix, 2013). A tailor made treatment plan for Darnell Yardley using Adlerian perspective would consists of certain goals for Darnell to work toward. The therapist would suggest that Darnell look at his premise and life goals. The therapist may challenge Darnellââ¬â¢s perspective in this process and have him inspect the things he has developed negative or inferior methods of viewing and thinking about something and show him a different approach. The therapist would encourage Darnell to develop some social goals. Such as he is complaining of being lonely, the therapist would have him join a club or become involved in team sport on campus and begin developing friendships. The therapist would challenge his loneliness with the thoughts of your lonely because you are alone. To have a friend you need to be a friend. This would also develop Darnellââ¬â¢s sense of belonging as he stated, ââ¬Å"I feel alive and needed on the football field.â⬠The therapist would encourage Darnell that if playin g football makes you feel happy and needed why not do it even if you are not doing it professionally. In conclusion, Alfred Adler was a therapist who was ahead of his time. Hisà approach was controversial and the sense of community made his theories seem less scientific in an empirical sense, rather more of a collection of his personal views. In a positive reflection the concept of the inferiority complex and an individualââ¬â¢s self worth can be strengthened and increase from the fostering of a group. The importance of what teamwork can impart on the strengthening a personââ¬â¢s self worth and a sense of belonging to a group can be a strong motivator toward positive change. The treatment plan for Darnell and Adlerââ¬â¢s approach to family systems and group cohesion would be beneficial for relieving many of his reported issues. The second amendment was partly influenced by the Bowling for Columbine film. Criticism and rising concern on gun violence fueled the need for personal responsibility on gun use and increased police patrols. The amendments achieved collective rights, sophisticated collective rights and standard model to different classes of people and defend their right to ownership of firearms. The documentary style used in the film brings out the message the movie is intended to deliver. The objective of the film is to bring out sanity and rationality of the Americans. Political activism in the movie is used to show the root c ause of Americaââ¬â¢s plight and long history in gun violence (Petrie & Joseph, 2012). The use of cartoons and real shooting indicates the ruthless killings in the state that are triggered by loose morals and racism. Personal bias is evident in the way Moore tries to bring out ideas from his personal perspective. For example, the critic on the governments laxity of control of gun violence and political exploitation. The language used in the film is easy to understand and is characterized by minimal profanity to make the movie interesting.
